Nichicon introduces the F11 Series line of layered conductive polymer aluminum capacitors

Nichicon Corporation has released a new line of molded conductive polymer capacitors called the "F11 series". The layered aluminum design of the F11 series provides the ultra low ESR and ESL over a wide frequency needed for today's high performance LSI (CPU and GPU especially for PC and game equipment).

Ultra small applications such as graphics processors for PC's demand components that are smaller but with higher performance. In the capacitor area, this means smaller size and lower overall impedance. For example, high performance LSI IC's (CPU and GPU) need decoupling circuits with lower ESR and lower ESL over a wide frequency range. To meet this requirement designers have had to use dozens of capacitors, all of which may have different characteristics at various frequencies. Until now, the only way to overcome this was by using more capacitors even though the size reduction requirements of end applications demanded fewer parts. To meet this requirement, Nichicon released the "F11 series", which can replace the need for so many capacitors due to its ultra low ESR and ESL characteristics yet also provide greater performance.

The F11 series uses layered aluminum construction, conductive polymer electrolyte, and a unique three terminal design all in a molded package. This structure decreases the magnetic field and inductance at ultra high frequency so the part achieves excellent impedance characteristics over a wide frequency range. Because the F11 series has large capacitance and ultra low ESR/ESL it can be used to reduce the total number now required using conventional capacitors.

The F11 presently has a voltage range of 2.5V to 6.3V and a capacitance range of 47µF to 2400µF. The operating temperature range is -55 to +105°C. Two sizes are presently available (F size (16.7×12.1×2.5mm) and D size (8.5×5.3×2.0mm). Both Sample and production quantities are available now.
